Should I try to patent my invention?

After clients ask if they can patent an idea, and what is required to patent it, they ask if they should try to patent it.  This is a question that requires input from you, because the answer depends on what your goals are for the invention, and how much time and energy you have to devote to developing it into a marketable product or the core of a business.
